The Tiki Style Collection of The Dsquared Duo

The twins Dean and Dan Caten the designers of Dsquared,  know how to construct a perfect scenario.

Their Spring/Summer collection 2014 made us reliving one of those fabulous summer days in the fifties, being on a tropical paradise beach, next to a tiki style bar, surrounded by a palm forest, white sand covering the runway, the rhythm of the Cha-cha, Mambo and Maracas, in a perfect  vacation-like atmosphere, here moves the very  feminine and impeccable  woman of Dsquares.

Dean and Dan Caten  with their last collection plays a  real tribute to cinema’s sexy mammas and pin ups idols of the 50’s like Ava Gardner,  Debora Kerr and Silvana Mangano.

The focus is all on the waist, with shaped bustier cocktail dresses, bathing suit style, showing, well, all of the leg, and padded at their hips to amplify curves. The line between beachwear and evening wear is confused, while the first focus generally on skin revealing costumes, the evening carries frilled skirts, squeezed at the waist and tops with sweetheart romantic collars. Ladylike puffed bon-ton robes layered with lawns of tulle, for a belled shaped effect, which emphasize even more the waist, cocoon-shaped caban coats, large-framed sunglasses and high-waisted bikini bottoms.

The ruffled fabrics are made more precious by the colorful prints and the lamè embroideries which give almost a tridimensional feeling. The laser cut leather creates elegant laces and the animal printed pony skin give strong character to the sophisticated miniskirts and the cocoon shaped caban coats. The accessories including wide-brimmed hats, large-framed sunglasses, and maxi jewels, mixing golden leaves and huge stones together, complete the look, giving a bon-ton touch.

The show ends with a twist:  a long white dress, close on the waist with an origami bow,  that could be both interpreted as an evening gown, or even like a wedding dress, confirms that the work of the two designers is completely unpredictable and difficult to be labelled.
