MAC Winter/Spring 2014 Collections Punk Couture vs. Magnetic Nudes

The end of the year brought us two polar opposites in terms of colour stories, Punk Couture brings us dark and garish colours to celebrate the inner rebel while Magnetic Nudes embellishes and celebrates our skin.

Let’s start with Punk Couture, filled with black, silver, plums and darkened reds that while exciting with creme gloss in black with gold pearl or true black matte lipstick we have our own doubts that these colours are awesome that have limited wearability, we find that black lipstick looks good on paper unless you work at MAC or Ilamasqua you really can’t bring it to the office, as for the black lipgloss it’s been done by YSL years ago with the exact same unwearability unless paired with burgundy lipsticks and applied with extreme caution.

macpunk02Black coloured lips aside the rest of the collection is rather wearable with plums, violets, greys and darker colours can turn you into a smouldering beauty. There is also a collection of glittered mascaras that doesn’t make us happy with joy because we’re not as adventurous in terms of lashes as to put glitter on them.

The collection further offers nail colours in the same shades and neon MAC pigments with a very cute fuchsia that could double as a blusher for porcelain beauties. The liners are re-promotes of the standard MAC liners.

On the other hand, MAC gives you Magnetic Nudes, a collection of face products that are meant to highlight you skin to fake that inner glow. With two new textures for Skinfinish and blush with shimmering finishes, nude lipsticks and nude liners much similar to one of last year’s nude collections.

It seems like MAC is making a double effort catering to all crowds but has left us a bit lukewarm after all the Holiday launches last year.
