In Kate Middleton news of the day (don’t you just love her?), the Duchess of Cambridge shopped at the Gap for baby Prince George. (Perhaps she was inspired by President Barack Obama’s visit to a Manhattan Gap to buy sweaters for Sasha and Malia.)
“I love shopping the high street.”
But of course, since this high-street jaunt was a royal visit, we want ALL the details. So here goes: According to the Daily Mail, in preparation for her Australia and New Zealand trip, Kate made a last-minute dash to the American retailer. Since she is a duchess, she hopped into her chauffeured Range Rover for a ride to the nearest local outpost, which is about 500 yards away, in British speak, a.k.a. just over a quarter of a mile in U.S. speak.
Apparently, Kate spent about 20 minutes perusing the Baby Gap section for little Prince George (too bad the high-street chain doesn’t make personalized cashmere mini sweaters) and decided on a green checkered button-down shirt bodysuit, a couple of nautical-striped onesies, stripey sweatpants, and jean shorts. A collective “awww,” everyone. All in all, she spent a reasonable total of £126 or approximately $210.
The best part is that the low-key commoner turned princess waited in line with regular paying customers—although presumably with a coterie of armed bodyguards.
Here’s a sampling of Kate’s recent purchases for baby George, just in case you’d like your kid to be outfit twinsies with a royal. Hey, it happens sometimes.
