Don’t be fooled by blogger Shea Marie’s characteristically Southern California looks, because her personal style tends to teeter a bit more toward the dark side. Think python, patent leather, leopard print, and lots and lots of black, all of which the stunner behind the popular blog Peace Love Shea puts together with a sunny L.A. twist.
The 27-year-old has definitely mastered the mix of breezy boho-chic and cool rocker-inspired style, and it doesn’t hurt that her roommate and best friend, Caroline Vreeland (yes, as in the legendary Diana Vreeland who is Caroline’s great grandmother) is a fashion legacy and game for sharing a closet full of great clothes with Shea.
But as chic as Shea is, it took some experimenting with fashion in her earlier twenties to nail her enviable look for both her wardrobe and her home. Now that she’s nearing 30 and flying to Paris and New York City on a regular basis for collaborations with Dior Beauty and Steve Madden, she has honed a more polished style that includes timeless items like a trusty black blazer, a sexy LBD, and killer statement boots.
Here she shares some must-have items every woman should own by the time she turns 30, plus a fun peek inside the West Hollywood home she shares with Vreeland and their third roommate, Lucy Aragon, a.k.a. the “Free Spirit” on this season of The Bachelor! Talk about a household with nonstop excitement and loads of style.
The Importance of a Great Black Blazer: “They’re just right, not too stuffy but still high-end and livable,” says Shea. “And Helmut Lang makes the best blazers. Caroline and I can’t stop trading this one back and forth. Plus, it’s perfect for all of my meetings.”
A Sentimental Piece of Jewelry: “By 30, a girl should have a piece of jewelry that she bought herself to remind her how hard she’s worked to get there,” she says. Shea’s is a necklace with black diamonds from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills.
The Go-Anywhere Fashion Triumvirate: A Really Good Little Black Dress, Neutral Clutch, and Versatile Day Tote. Shea’s favorite LBD is by Alaia and she has nailed down cost-per-wear on this neutral python Valentino clutch and Goyard tote. “I can put my laptop and notebooks into this Goyard tote and bring it with me throughout the day. It just looks more professional,” she says.”
A Bestie to Have Fashion Fun With: Not all of us are so lucky to share a shoe size with their best friend, but Shea is. Caroline, or Caro, as Shea affectionately refers to her, loves a rocker look as well. These black leather lace-up pants from Isabel Marant for H&M are her daily go-tos. “Shea styles me,” muses Caroline. “Thankfully, we are almost the same size and exactly the same shoe size!”
Her Go-To Daytime Outfit: “This Style Saint dress with Chloe mules is the kind of L.A. look I would wear while running errands or to a daytime event,” Shea says. “I wore it the other day with a jean jacket and booties. It’s a daytime L.A. look.”
Mani Monday: How she gets those delicately decorated nails and hands: I always have nude or clear nails with some sort of embellishment on them but decided to try red recently. I go to Pampered Hands in L.A. but was just in New York and went to Vanity Projects. They can do the most amazing stuff. Black diamond rings are from XIV Karats and the rose-gold rings are from Luv Aj.
The Newcomers: “I love to support L.A. designers,” says Shea. “This outfit from [L.A.-based line] Mademoiselle is made from a really cool, textured leather.”
Can’t Get Enough Of… Her favorite fashion item to buy while abroad: sunglasses. I’ve bought a few pairs of Celine sunglasses while in Paris. “I like sunglasses a lot, so when I go places they’re that easy thing to buy,” she says.
Accessorizing at Home: “I put fashion book anywhere I feel there’s an empty space,” says Shea. “I ordered a bunch online when we moved into this house.”
About That Closet: I’ve been traveling so much and like to see all the pieces I wear and want to pack, so the items on the rolling racks are what I really wear.”
On Her Fabulous Roommates and Best Friends: Lucy’s always happy and positive,” she says. “We’ve literally never heard her complain about a thing! Caroline is an amazing and talented singer; we met when we ended up moving into the same apartment building and starting the same job on the same day. We knew it was meant to be!”
