Ever since Elle Fanning stepped out in the perfect modern-day Disney-princess dress the other day, we’ve been obsessed. We always knew the 16-year-old starlet was a fashion prodigy—she’s mastered runway looks back when most kids were thinking about what to wear to seventh-grade homeroom. Hey, it’s a big deal when we’re basically being schooled in intellectual, near-esoteric, avant garde fashion by a teenager! For that reason and because she’s been killing it sartorially in anticipation of the May 30 premiere of Maleficent, Miss Elle Fanning is our Glamour Style Icon of the Week.
Even back in 2009, at the tender age of 11, Elle nailed the perfect mix of modern, youthful, and elegant.
In 2010 at the premiere of Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere (the then-tween played Stephen Dorff’s daughter in the movie), Elle pulled off this conceptual gold mini-frock by Rodarte with matching straight from the runway Nicholas Kirkwood platforms—with socks layered under, of course.
At the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn premiere, she wore another ripped-from-the-runway ensemble from Prada spring 2013. Elle also made headlines by debuting the much-discussed Japanese flatform sandals from the collection.
Elle just looked like a dream at the British Independent Film Awards in 2012. Is it normal to be envious of a 14-year-old’s wardrobe? Because this pink rise-fall dress by Oscar de la Renta is to die for.
At an AMPAS event in 2013, Elle balanced ladylike and menswear-inspired in a satiny Carven dress and black-and-white Celine creepers.
No wonder Miu Miu cast Elle Fanning as the face of its spring 2014 collection. How absolutely perfect does she look in the label’s designs?
On the Maleficent promo trail, Elle worked the season’s hottest crop top and high-waisted skirt pairing in this creamy ruffled set by Ellery.
Kudos to Elle for being able to wear pink but not look like she’s going to a school dance or Easter service. See above and this expertly draped Vivienne Westwood dress.
