Rihanna’s been making the headlines this week and it’s not so much about what she’s actually wearing, if you know what I mean. But kudos to the CFDA Fashion Icon (and our own!) for making a style statement (and keeping us on our toes) no matter what. And she did it again at the Paris launch of her new fragrance, Rogue by Rihanna, by updating a late-’90s/early-aughts classic: cargo pants.
I swear I owned like five pairs of cargoes back in the day. They were a comfy, were a cozy alternative to jeans, added a dose of ruggedness to any outfit, and were convenient to stash my lipstick, flip phone (hey, it was only a phone back then), and credit cards in all the pockets—hands-free! So I was ecstatic to see the safari-inspired trousers back on the fall runway—and so was Rihanna, as she wore a dressed-up custom leather Balmain version from the upcoming collection. But, of course, RiRi reimagined her pair with a high designer flair—a matching chain-link-detailed crisscross top and taupe-hue barely there heels.
