Bonnaroo just ushered music festival season into Tennessee, and immediately I started checking out the street style. Festival fashion has exploded in recent years, and sometimes it’s easy to see more Don’ts than Dos (furry boots with short shorts? feathered headdresses?). For a fresh take, I focused on the stage to see what sort of style inspiration the main acts were providing.
When the weather warms up, I stack my closet with easy, breezy white dresses. Turns out the same simple shape looks fantastic in spicy red too, as proved by Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
The sexy dress hanging in your closet and waiting for a formal, black-tie affair could have legs for a daytime event. Nini Fabi of Haerts looked stunning in this low-cut white wrapdress, and while it wouldn’t feel out of place on the red carpet, she kept it summer-casual with no jewelry and chunky flatform sandals.
The same simple styling makes Zsuzsanna Eva Ward’s fringed, party-ready LBD feel appropriate for a Southern afternoon. I love the addition of the hat and the flat ankle boots!
Speaking of boots, how fantastic is this turquoise pair on Valerie June? The bright is plenty spunky on its own, and I adore that hers fit into the bright color palette she’s rocking.
Where a simple tank top would’ve worked, Noelle Scaggs of Fitz and the Tantrums made things sexy and chic in this easy crop top (and, gosh, it must’ve felt good in all the humidity!). The cut and neoprene texture of hers reminds me of a bikini, which brings up a rather fantastic idea: Try making your swimsuit top pull double duty the next time you’re on vacation.
