With the oh-so-exciting news that Kate Middleton is officially expecting baby #2, we have a lot to think about. The usual (names, gender, etc.) but also how she’ll be dressing through the pregnancy since last time sister nailed it. And there’s no time like New York Fashion Week to start thinking about what maternity-friendly looks she’ll sport from some of her favorite designers.
“We didn’t dress her last time when she was pregnant, but we’d love to,” Lela Rose told Sophia at her spring 2015 show this morning. “I have so many ideas! Actually, the inspiration for this collection came from vintage kimonos because I used to wear them all the time when I was pregnant.”
Kate’s regular style is typically more trim and tailored than a full kimono, but I think Lela’s onto something here. How comfortable and chic would this blue-and-white number she just sent down the runway look?
Another fresh-from-the-catwalk dress I’d like to see Kate in a version of? This loose Zimmermann gown. You know she loves the label (remember the white eyelet she wore on the beach in Australia?), and this silhouette would be bump-friendly. Shorten it to knee-length and it’s screaming Kate’s name.
For when that nasty morning sickness abates (it’s back again, according to reports) and she hits formal events, this pale pink silk Alexander McQueen dress would make her look like a pregnant goddess.
Jenny Packham has never done Kate wrong and she surely wouldn’t this time either. I love the deep green-blue color of this number from her last Resort collection and think the waistline would work well for an expectant mom. We’ll see what new options she has up her sleeve for spring 2015 too!
Need another option for a walk down the red carpet? This Issa London pick, gathered at the stomach and topped with a bow, would show off her new baby curves beautifully.
