From Fall Shorts to Fringed Tops, These 5 New J.Crew Work Outfits Will Make You Swoon

I don’t know about where you’re based, but in the Northeast, fall weather is so close I can taste it. Now’s the time to start thinking about the fall outfits you’ll want to pull out when the first crisp day comes, and there’s no better place than J.Crew for easy inspiration. The retailer just revealed its October staple pieces with inspired outfits to try for work and weekend.

I love this variation on the button-up and trousers look for the office, and while bare legs still work, show them off. The company’s head of design Tom Mora talked to us at the brand’s spring 2015 presentation and said loose, long shorts were gonna be big next season—fancy a headstart?

Like the white blouse above, the cashmere sweater is another of their autumn vitals. It’s a no-brainer with jeans, but how cool does it look tucked into shorts? (I want to try it with a leather pair!).

Jeans and a t-shirt works in any season, but their take on it is, predictably, pretty darn cool. Boyfriend jeans (another closet must) feel a little fancy with a swinging fringed shirt.

The coat silhouette they’re counting on is this one: a slouchy, hooded overcoat that’s so basic it’ll work in your closet for decades (and over your gym clothes or a dress at dinner). Notice the outfit under it, too: a sequin tank layered over a tee and midi skirt. Cute!

For when you need a step down from the tassels, try a stylized top like this tee. Doesn’t it kind of feel like oversized pinstripes?
