Major fashion news: Former Nina Ricci designer Peter Copping has been named as creative director of Oscar de la Renta.
According to WWD: “Copping will begin his new role Nov. 3 with the responsibility of setting “the design direction across all product categories reporting to Oscar de la Renta and Alex Bolen, the company’s chief executive officer.”
Copping’s first collection for the revered house will be for fall 2015, which will be unveiled in February.
An industry vet, Copping is known for his romantic, soft ruffled gowns that have been worn by the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Claire Danes. The New York City-based de la Renta, who is 82, founded his namesake company in 1965. His dresses are favored among the most sophisticated ladies on the planet, including longtime fan Sarah Jessica Parker, who most recently wore Oscar at the Met Costume Institute Gala this year as cohost.
