Unlike the romantic fashion in which time seemed to stand still I made this weekend a trip to the future. The Future of Fashion is Now focuses on new visions and fresh designs by young fashion designers from all over the world. Do we actually want a new wardrobe every six months or can fashion last longer? Does the fit of a dress have to satisfy the prevailing ideal of beauty or might it be different? What is fashion’s role in the advance of wearable technology like Google Glass? These are the fundamental questions that concern the latest generation of fashion designers. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing the fashion of the future, with work by designers including Viktor&Rolf, Christophe Coppens (Belgium),

Hussein Chalayan (Cyprus) and Rejina Pyo (Korea).

The look from the Red Carpet collection (Viktor & Rolf) is included in the current collection The Future of Fashion is Now the museum in Rotterdam. Sculptural dresses, jackets and capes with asymmetrical protrusions are part of their acclaimed autumn/winter 2013 collection. The pieces, donated by patron

Han Nefkens, have arrived in the museum and are exhibited for the first time in this exhibition.
