Just in time for colder weather—and ski season!—Aether opens its Los Angeles flagship. What happens when the two guys, the producers behind Hollywood hits including Requiem for a Dream and Religulous, get together and open a brick-and-mortar for their luxury performance-wear brand? Check it out.
The 4,000-square-foot space is situated in an industrial space in the La Brea design district—and was designed in collaboration with Thierry Gaugain, who previously worked with the duo on their other locations in New York City and San Francisco. Notice anything about the shelving?
Yup, it’s modular. Inside the store there’s a custom 13-by-13-foot wood cabana, which was specially designed for the brand’s walk-in-freezer (on-site gear-testing!) and dressing rooms, along with 45 wood crates that can easily be moved and rearranged to give the space a different feel monthly, seasonally, whenever-ly.
There are also lots of only-at-the-L.A.-location products on display (for purchase!)—including custom Ruby motorcycle helmets, Black Diamond ski gloves, Kletterwerks bags, Salt sunglasses, James pocket knives, and more.
As for my personal love affair with Aether? I’ve long been obsessed with the brand’s amazing performance outerwear that doesn’t look like performance outerwear. Their coats are sleek and super-flattering. I get ’em in black, and they go with everything—from fleece-lined running tights or ski pants to an LBD (for work or cocktails). Here’s my hands-down favorite: the super-slimming Stormy jacket ($495), a modern take on the mac.
