The Miss World competition happened last night, and I’ve become more and more disappointed I missed it. I’m a sucker for talent competitions, sure, but also those ladies have amazingly gorgeous hair, and the entire thing could be an evening gown convention. What could be a better way to spend Sunday night? (Answer: not watching football on your couch, that’s for sure).
The gown that won it all belongs to Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss, and it has a lot of the details I’ve seen on wedding dresses—ruching all over the bodice, tiers of ruffles, and a skirt that flares out from the midthigh. I’m not crazy about the extreme push-up thing that’s happening at the bodice, but I do like that it’s an off-the-shoulder style, so we’re even. She skipped sequins, beads, and spangles too, something commonly associated with pageant gowns and still managed to stun.
But, guys, if they were giving out an award based solely on dress choice, I really hope they’d pick Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit (she was second runner-up). That red dress is stunning for the train alone!
