Rest easy, fashion lovers: Lupita Nyong’o’s Calvin Klein Collection dress, worn on this year’s Oscar red carpet, has been recovered. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, via Good Morning America, said it received “an anonymous call that the dress was in a restroom in the second floor” of the hotel where Lupita was staying. After searching, officers recovered the dress in a bag stashed under a sink in an abandoned bathroom.
The department said there are currently no suspects, though surveillance tape is still being reviewed. Good Morning America reported that the media outlet that tipped off police was TMZ, which claimed it was the thief who called in the tip.
“All of us at Calvin Klein are thrilled to know that the dress has potentially been located. This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita, and the dress looked truly exquisite on her,” the brand’s creative director, Francisco Costa, said in a statement. “Once it’s returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand.”
Police said a few pearls appear to have fallen off the dress, but it’s otherwise in good condition. The dress went missing from the star’s hotel room sometime during the day on Wednesday when her door was left ajar.
