This morning’s piece of news about Pharrell Williams being named the recipient of the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award made pure sense to me (and this was before a single sip of coffee, mind you). The CFDA states that the honor goes to someone “whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on the international stage” and to that I have only two words: Grammys hat.
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg said in a press release announcing the news.
Past winners have included Sarah Jessica Parker, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, and, but of course, Rihanna. When she accepted her statuette last year, she made the whole red carpet gasp with her pretty-much-see-through Swarovski-embellished gown (we’re talking more than 200,000 crystals).
