For the last eight years, the Kate Spade New York the world has known has had little to do with the woman actually named Kate Spade. Rather, Spade, who started her namesake brand in 1993, and her husband, Andy, who also worked for the brand, bowed out when the company was purchased in late 2006.
The original Kate Spade is now set to rejoin the world of fashion designers, with plans to release a full line of shoes and assorted bags in time for this holiday season.
“I’ve spent the last eight years raising my daughter and being a consumer. It’s exciting to be back at work,” she told WWD. There are no further details at the moment, including a brand name or prices, but legal restrictions mean Spade will not be able to use her own name.
