Naked dresses have been making headlines lately—just think back to the sheer numbers with strategically placed embellishments worn by Beyoncé Knowles, Kim Kardashian West, and Jennifer Lopez to the Met Gala in May, and it seems the next iteration of the look is upon us: the side naked dress.
We’re only just seeing the trend truly develop at the couture shows taking place in Paris this week. The look was first spotted on Sunday, when Karlie Kloss wore her Atelier Versace finale dress right off the runway and into the AmfAR dinner that followed. From the front, the violet gown with sheer skirt was fairly unassuming by runway standards, then—wham!—she turned to the side to reveal that there was basically no fabric on either side of the bodice.
The second sighting of the side naked dress came at the Dior Haute Couture show, where Raf Simons showed a sleeveless gown with a plunging neckline—completely bare at either side, held together only by two small-link chains.

These dresses are making Gwyneth Paltrow’s side panel Antonio Berardi dress from 2013 seem kind of chaste!
Will we see the side naked dress on the red carpet any time soon? Time will tell. Until then, let’s use that time well and pray for calm winds—just in case.
