It’s unanimous: Caitlyn Jenner looked exquisite in her Versace gown at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night.
Jenner, who took the stage in her first live TV appearance since coming out as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair, was styled in a gorgeous silk cady dress by Atelier Versace. Now her stylist, Jen Rade, who also works with Angelina Jolie, is speaking out about the epic fashion moment to People.
“We wanted to do something classic, chic, and sophisticated,” Rade, who met Jenner only a month prior to the awards, told the magazine. “Cait is beautiful: She has great hair, gorgeous bone structure, legs for days. So I just wanted it to be about her and not let anything take away from that.”
Rade was inspired by Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall in creating the look. She and designer Donatella Versace perused thousands of shades of ivory before selecting the tone that would best suit Jenner. “We [placed] different swatches across her shoulder, near her face so we could see which was a nice, warm tone,” said Rade. “They custom-dyed two bolts in case they had to redo something, and then got to work!” Tailors came from New York and Milan to ensure the dress fit perfectly.
As for the shoes, Rade went to Stuart Weitzman, who custom made Jenner’s heels. They chose from 15 different leather options before picking the perfect tone.
