A dedication to diverse textile crafts. A new-collaged aesthetic. A place where fashion and art meet. The brand, MaryMe-JimmyPaul, creates designs that take inspiration from pop culture, people.. the world, and their own made up stories, to create pieces that push boundaries of shapes, textures and colour. What makes MaryMe-JimmyPaul so special, is that their creations are able to evoke a feeling or emotion, or as they say “the end result is an explosion in the face, like a Bugs Bunny cartoon.”
“MaryMe-JimmyPaul takes the viewer into the beautiful, eerie, humorous, bizarre, grandiose fantasy fashion world of MaryMe-JimmyPaul, through its unique presentation.” – MARYME- JIMMYPAUL
MaryMe-JimmyPaul is based and created in Amsterdam and has been featured in the famous building of the W Hotel, in the place where design, fashion and art combine: X Bank. X Bank has recently added the vault to its collection. A 67 m2 high tech adaptable space with the most modern capabilities. X Bank aims to include the vault in all its exhibitions, giving Dutch talent a new way of showcasing their art, fashion & design, in a digital era. MaryMe-Jimmy Paul debuted their collection here through a special event. Even Charlie’s natural soda was served for an extra healthy and colorful touch.
The featured MaryMe-JimmyPaul collection at X Bank was their newest; think of: ‘Gobelin’ tapestry embroidery, the art of quilting, hand-knitting, macramé making, stone cutting, lace making. A collection that represents true DIY culture and the improvisation when creating a garment to push artistry within their designs. MaryMe-JimmyPaul go against the ‘fast produced-fast consumed’ fashion industry and strive to create pieces that not only have thought, but personality and craftsmanship that simply cannot be bought.
As we live in a very exciting time in which feminism, punk DIY aesthetics, and eco-consciousness have converged to create a new crafting movement. Instead of feeling oppressed by sewing and other domestic arts, feminists now often use them as a means of connection to each other. In this project, MaryMe-JimmyPaul want to connect their fashion practice with their contemporary sense of precocity.
Challenging appropriations, improvisations, crafts and artistry, emotions… MaryMe-JimmyPaul designs tell a story that is captivating, and very fun, to look at. Not one to miss and a brand to keep watching.
