Casting directors from Oxygen’s reality fashion show The Face are coming to New York City on July 21 to look for aspiring models who want to be a part of its season season.
So I spoke to head casting director Randy Bernstein to find out what he wants to see from the women who will attend the event. How can we go from casting call to being mentored by supermodel coaches Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, or Karolina Kurkova?
“I’m looking for women that are driven to become models,” he said. “Women that have what it takes to be the face of a national brand. I want to see striking features, and I hope they have an amazing story to tell and have a lot of confidence.”
Here are Randy’s tips to a successful audition:
*Don’t wear a suit (this isn’t a job interview)
*Don’t wear a costume (people do this sometimes!)
*Wear minimal makeup
*Wear high heels and be prepared to walk in them
*Wear your hair up (they want to see your face and not have it covered in hair)
*Be outspoken and have opinions!
After speaking with Randy, I called the winner of season one, Devyn, to find out how she made it beyond the casting to the show. “You have to look confident,” she said. “Even if you’re nervous, no one will know if you act like you belong there. I knew I was going to be there, regardless of what anyone thought of me. I thought, no one can stop you.”
As the winner of The Face, Devyn is now the spokeswoman for Ulta Beauty. “Back in the day, people would probably think of being a supermodel as just a pretty face and as someone who took great pictures. But this is a business, and I’ve learned you have to be confident, be relatable, be on time and be polite.”
She said the hardest part of being a recognized face on the streets is that she always has to be model-ready. “You have to look great every time you leave the house. You never know if you’ll run into a designer or a fan. You always have to be ready.”
If you want to follow in Devyn’s footsteps, check out the casting at Chelsea Studios in New York City on Sunday, July 21, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Have you always wanted to be a model? Did you watch the first season of The Face? Would you consider attending the casting event?
