The last catwalk taking place on Friday 12th of July at the Westergasfabriek was by MaryMe – JimmyPaul. The fashion duo never fails to surprise and their work has been published in Vogue and exhibited alongside Prada and Maison Martin Margiela, therefore expectations were very high. They were by far exceeded.
With their S/S14 collection “WET ‘N WILD” MaryMe – JimmyPaul took us on a journey into their magical world. To a an eclectic cocktail of upbeat Japanese cartoon soundtrack with a pinch of Who Wants To Be Millionaire and some Daft Punk (and no, it’s no exaggeration!) models with lilac and azure Pippi Longstockings braids cheerfully strolled down the runway in the brightest of colours: strawberry reds, “Smurf” blues, lime greens, fuchsias, neon orange, lemon yellows and every shade in between. The “sexy rainbow” of colours came in the forms of Cruella Deville style furs, jackets, dresses, swimwear, stockings and tights. Everything in completely altered proportions: “super-tiny” miniskirts, boots reaching the crotch and shorts that require a bikini wax.
Let’s not forget the interactive part of the catwalk: the audience could vote for each look from their mobile: “love it” or “hate it”. The results were displayed at the back of the runway.
The entire experience of the catwalk was memorable: MaryMe – JimmyPaul delivered a real show and with this collection expressed their sense of humour, confidence, incredible creativity and love for life.
