Are Dr. Scholl’s the Next Big Trend in Ugly Shoes?

Well, it was really only a matter of time. After two summers of Birkenstocks, shower slides, and Tevas, what else did we expect?

Those clunky sandals Marc Jacobs sent down his Spring 2015 runway looked an awful lot like Dr. Scholl’s.

Sure, Mr. Jacobs’ version featured thicker soles than your average Dr. Scholl’s Original sandal slides. And they were definitely fancier. (Some were covered in velvet, guys! That’s the fanciest fabric of them all!) But make no mistake. These were Dr. Scholl’s lookalikes for sure—right down to their little square buckles and nail head side details.

Don’t hate me for what I’m about to say, but: I’m into this. I wore my silver Glamour x Tevas all summer (and all over Fashion Week, too!) and my feet were happy as clams. If Dr. Scholl’s are as comfortable as those babies (and, uh, isn’t that the whole point of Dr. Scholl’s? The very reason the exist?!) then count me in.

I plan to milk this comfy, so-called “ugly” shoe trend for all it’s worth. That is, until Crocs make a runway appearance. Then maybe we’ll talk. Maybe.
